FERRIDAY — While the Ferriday Town Council approved occupational license applications Tuesday, Constable Rosa Mae Elaine interrupted the proceedings to disclose a fine detail.
“You know the planning commission has to look over those before you approve them,” Elaine said.
Elaine, a member of the planning commission, said the commission has not convened in some time. Alderman Johnnie Brown thanked Elaine for bringing her complaint to the council’s attention, and said he would meet with Mayor Glen McGlothin later this week to discuss contacting commission members. Brown said it is the commission’s responsibility to schedule and publicize regular meetings.
Still, the council unanimously approved occupational license applications for Calley Couture, 210 Louisiana Ave., The Country Café, 1624 E.E. Wallace Blvd., and Kunkle Kuntry, 2192 E.E. Wallace Blvd.
In other business:
– The council unanimously authorized redemption of the 2011 maturity of public improvement bonds, saving the town $10,000 per month.
– The council unanimously approved use of Walmart and U.S. Department of Agriculture funds for water-related structures.
– The council unanimously approved alcoholic beverage permit renewals for Ferriday Superette, 801 Louisiana Ave., and Xpress Mart Exxon, 406 Louisiana Ave.
