FERRIDAY — Two local schools got off to a great start in the first day of the Huntington Doubleheader on Monday.
The Adams County Christian Lady Rebels defeated host school Huntington Lady Hounds 51-29 while the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints defeated Tensas Academy 51-27.
ACCS got off to a very slow start against Huntington and actually trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.
However, the Lady Rebels recovered from their slow start to pummel the Lady Hounds over the next three quarters.
ACCS outscored Huntington 10-4 in the second quarter to take a 22-17 lead into halftime and then buried the Lady Hounds in the third quarter, outscoring them 14-2 to pull away for the victory that moves them to 8-2 on the season.
Marlee Wadsworth led ACCS with 16 points while Rachel Holloway added 10 in the victory.
Huntington was led by Kristen Havard with nine points and Abi Brown with seven.
It was a similar script for Trinity, as the Lady Saints also got off to a slow start against Tensas Academy before pulling away for the big victory.
Trinity led just 8-3 after the first quarter, but outscored Tensas 14-8 in the second period to take a 22-11 halftime lead.
The Lady Saints then outscored Tensas 16-11 in the third quarter and 13-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
Madeline Cross led Trinity with 14 points while Brandis White and Bethany Ogden both scored 12 points for the Lady Saints and Erin O’Quinn chipped in with eight.
Trinity will get an early wake up call today as the Lady Saints take on Huntington at 9 a.m. while ACCS will play Silliman Institute at noon on the final day of the tournament.
