Lady Rebels leave Hounds hurting on court

NATCHEZ — Thanks to a balanced scoring attack and some tough defense, the ACCS Lady Rebels rolled to a 59-19 win over the Huntington Lady Hounds Friday night.

ACCS won its second game in as many days to improve to 4-2 on the season while Huntington is yet to pick up its first win of the 2009-2010 season.

The Lady Rebels took command of this game early as they jumped out to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter wasn’t any better for the Lady Hounds in the second quarter as they were outscored 8-1 and trailed 27-5 at halftime.

Taylor Welch led ACCS with 15 points while Jessica Moffett had 10 points and Rachel Holloway had eight points. Abi Brown led Huntington with 10 points.

NATCHEZ — The ACCS Rebels overcame a sluggish first quarter with a big second quarter rally as they went on to defeat the Huntington Hounds Friday night

ACCS (3-0) trailed Huntington 7-5 after one quarter of play. Then the Rebels stormed back with a 25-10 advantage over the Hounds in the second quarter for a 30-17 halfitme lead and they never looked back.

Daniel Guedon led the Rebels with a game-high 21 points and Lee Swinney had 10 points. Kevin Brown finished with 17 points and Jess Dossett had eight points to lead Huntington (0-3).

Monterey girls 47, Harrisonburg 45

ALEXANDRIA, La. — It’s been a long time since the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Bulldogs on the hardwood and it looked like Friday night during the Grace Christian Tournament was going to be no exception.

But a strong defensive effort in the third quarter and a 19-point outburst in the fourth quarter were pivotal in Monterey’s amazing come-from-behind win over Harrisonburg.

Harrisonburg had things going its way in the first half en route to a 33-20 halftime lead. But Monterey’s defense held the Lady Bulldogs to just three points in the third quarter. Then the Lady Wolves outscored them by 10 points in the fourth quarter for the dramatic win.

Kendall Lipsey led Monterey (6-2) with 14 points. Taylor Sheppard scored a game-high 16 points for Harrisonburg. Monterey will take on Rapides today at noon.

Hosanna Christian 48

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Josh Chapman had a game-high 22 points and Jacob Evans added 11 points as the Wolves took a 10-point win Friday at the Grace Christian Tournament.

Monterey (4-4) had a seven-point lead at halftime, but Hosanna Christian cut the lead to three points at the end of the third quarter. But the Wolves had an 18-11 advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Jay Matthews and D. McGuire each scored 14 points for Hosanna Christian.

Monterey will take on Rapides today at 1:30 p.m.

Prairie View girls 60, Tensas Academy 30

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Caroline Oliphant scored a game-high 18 points as the Lady Spartans used a big first quarter to defeat the Lady Chiefs Friday night.

Prairie View, one of the top varsity girls’ teams in MAIS Class AA dominated Tensas Academy on both ends of the court throughout the opening quarter en route to a 26-4 lead. The Lady Spartans led by 32 points at the end of the third quarter.

Emma Arceneaux led Tensas Academy with 16 points, but got very little help from her teammates.
