Vidalia — The Vidalia Police Department is investigating the death of Mike Welch, 52, of Vidalia, according to a Welch family member.

Welch’s body was discovered in his Myrtle Street residence Sunday night. Police arrived on the scene at approximately 6 p.m., according to neighbors.

Welch lived at 804 Myrtle St., near the intersection with Apple Street, alone, family members said.

A cause of death was unknown, but family members said they became worried after not hearing from Welch since Thursday.
