NATCHEZ — Four members of the Mississippi State Legislature will start the day in Natchez Monday to speak at a Legislative Breakfast hosted by the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce.

Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. at the Natchez Eola Hotel on Pearl Street, said Janet Sullivan, a member of the Chamber board. Admittance is $10 at the door. The event ends at 9 a.m.

Speakers include State Sens. Kelvin Butler and Bob Dearing, and State Reps. Sam Mims and Robert L. Johnson III, all representing portions of Adams County. Rep. Angela Cockerham, who also represents a portion of the county, will not be in attendance due to a prior out-of-town commitment, Sullivan said.

“They will be speaking and talking about what happened in the previous sessions this year and the floor will be open to questions,” Sullivan said of the legislators. “They’re going to bring us up to date about what’s going on in the capital.”

Sullivan said the Chamber has hosted the breakfast for the past several years as a means to engage the public in the public policy process.

“We want to keep the public informed as to what’s going on in Jackson and how their tax dollars are being spent,” Sullivan said. “We’ve found the public wants to be informed and we have a pretty good turnout at these breakfasts.”
