NATCHEZ — Eric Williams has a secret, and Sunday that secret will be broadcast on national television.

Williams will find out exactly what his house, the Peter Hunter House on North Union Street, is worth when the house becomes the second Natchez house featured on the HGTV show “My House is Worth What?” at 11 a.m. Sunday.

“I have to remember not to cut the grass on Sunday, so I can watch,” Williams said.

The show explores three houses in three different areas of the county and grades the renovations and upgrades throughout the house. Ultimately, the show’s appraiser tells the homeowner what the house is worth.

Williams did extensive renovations on the interior of the house.

“The outside didn’t require a lot,” Williams said. “The interior needed an overhaul. It looked like grandma and grandpa owned in it in the 1950s.”

To bring the house more up-to-date, while maintaining its historical integrity, Williams updated the kitchen, bathrooms and replaced moldings in the parlor, entry hall and dinning room.

“(The show’s appraisers) were very impressed with the bathrooms,” Williams said. “Everything is done in granite now. They look really sharp.”

Williams favorite update is a little more personal.

“I think I favor the moldings because of the work that went into them,” Williams said. “These old houses aren’t straight. When you have a house that is 150 years old, they tend to move a little bit, and moldings are something that don’t like to bend.”

Williams found out what his house is worth while the footage was being filmed, but can’t divulge the details until after the episode. He did say, however that he was pleasantly surprised.

“It was more than I anticipated, especially given the real estate market and the economy as a whole,” he said.

Charlotte Copeland will be the local Realtor featured on the show.

The Lawrence House, owned by Mike and Gayle Henry was featured on Aug. 16.
