WESSON — The Natchez 12-year-old All-Stars spotted the Lincoln Nationals an early two-run lead, but came back strong and wound up winning the game in just five innings.
Natchez used a big fifth inning to overcome the early deficit and post a 12-2 win in an elimination game of the sub-district tournament.
Natchez will now play Wesson in the championship game of the tournament tonight.
Natchez must beat Wesson twice because Natchez has one loss in the tournament while Wesson is undefeated.
The first game will begin at 6 p.m. while the second game, if necessary, will follow immediately.
On Tuesday, Natchez quickly got off the deck after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
Natchez came back with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Lester Wells.
Ben Hewitt gave Natchez the lead in the bottom of the second on a hit and Wells drove in another run with a base knock in the bottom of the third.
Will Sandel drove in Natchez’s fifth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth and then scored himself on a Lincoln Nationals error later in the inning.
Natchez ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored six runs.
Trey Fleming had the big hit of the inning, when he blasted a three-run homer to give Natchez a 9-2 lead.
Thomas Garrity and Cameron Farmer scored on wild pitches and Sandel ended the game with a hit that drove in Wells.
Quin Logan was the winning pitcher for Natchez, while Fleming and Garrity also took the mound in the winning effort.
