BROOKHAVEN — The Natchez Dixie Youth 11-year-old All-Star team was apparently angry about Monday night’s 6-5 loss to Wesson.
And the Lincoln County Americans were the team that faced the brunt of that frustration.
The Natchez team scored 14 runs in the third inning en route to a 26-0 whitewash of the Americans in an elimination game.
“We came alive tonight with the bats,” Natchez coach Jeff Webb said. “I think they were a little hungry after the disappointment of (Monday) night. We hit the ball well all the way through the order. Everybody hit.”
Natchez didn’t just get cheap hits either. They pounded out nine doubles and two homers in the contest.
Christopher White, Luke Thomas, Edwin Byrne and Nic Webb all had two doubles each while Jeremy Myles had a double as well.
Landon Seyfarth, who was the winning pitcher, and Tyler Wilson hit homers for Natchez, with Wilson’s shot being a grand slam.
“There weren’t any rinky dink hits,” Webb said. “They were hitting the ball hard. It was contagious.”
With the win, Natchez advances to the championship game tonight against Wesson.
Since Natchez has one loss and Wesson has no losses, Natchez must defeat Wesson twice today to win the tournament.
The first game begins at 6 p.m. and the second game, if necessary, will follow immediately.
“We need the bats to heat up (tonight) too,” Webb said. “We’re up to the challenge. Our whole team feels like we let one slip away on Monday, and now we have to beat Wesson back to back.”
