GALLMAN — The Natchez Dixie Youth 9-year-old All-Stars got off to a great start in the sub-district tournament Tuesday night, as they routed Lincoln County Nationals 14-2.
Natchez pounded out 10 hits in 20 at-bats and didn’t commit an error in the game.
“It was definitely a good victory,” coach Josh Hargon said. “You’ve got to win Game 1. You don’t want to get in the loser’s bracket, especially after the first game.”
Josh Day picked up the win for Natchez, and also came through at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple.
Landon Havard also had multiple hits while Marshall Edmonds had a triple and Josh Hargon hit a double.
Andrew Porter also pitched in relief for the Natchez All-Stars.
“We hit the ball real well (Tuesday) night,” coach Hargon said. “We knew we could, we’ve been doing it in practice.”
Hargon said his team was ready to play an actual game after practicing together for the last two weeks.
“When they stepped on the field, their attention was to baseball,” Hargon said. “They stepped on the field wanting to play baseball. I’m definitely impressed with the victory.”
With the victory, Natchez moves on to face Lincoln County Americans in a winner’s bracket game at 8 p.m. today.
“They won (their first game) pretty big, something like 14-4,” Hargon said. “We’ve got to throw strikes and play good defense, and everything else will work out.”
