T.M. Jennings Little League getting better

NATCHEZ — The 2009 season at the T.M. Jennings Little League is almost over, and league president Eric Fry said it has been one of the best ever.
The league, which plays its games at Frazier Primary School fields, had over 180 kids participate this year in four different age groups.
“This has been one of the best seasons we’ve had since I’ve been doing this,” Fry said. “This is my fourth year as league president, and I think this is the best one.”
Fry said the participation from the players and parents is what has made the year so successful.
“We’ve had great participation from the parents,” Fry said. “Everyone has been humble and nice. Everybody has had fun.”
Support from the community has also been key to the league’s success, Fry said.
“I want to thank the community for its support,” Fry said. “This league gives the kids something to do during these summer months and keeps them away from things they don’t need to see or do. It brings them all together in an environment where they can have fun.”
And the league is something that is close to Fry’s heart. He no longer has any children playing in the league, but still donates his time to preside over it as president.
Fry said there is one simple reason why he continues to serve as league president.
“It’s because I know how good this league is for the community,” Fry said. “It gives the kids something positive in their lives. I also couldn’t do it without the community. I do my part because they do theirs.”
Fry isn’t the only one who donates their time to help out with the league.
Fry also wanted to thank Jamonica and Gwendolyn Stampley for operating the concession stand and Denise Clark and Connie White for helping with registration each year.
“Without their help the league wouldn’t be as successful as it is,” Fry said.
The league’s regular season ends this week and the playoffs are next Monday through Wednesday.
Also, at 2 p.m. on June 27 there will be a fun day at the fields for all the players.
There will be a Space Jump and water slide, and trophies will be given out to all the players.
“The league keeps getting better and growing,” Fry said. “The talent is getting better, and the kids are having lots of fun.”
