NATCHEZ — The Natchez High tennis team held court at Duncan Park and came away with a district tournament victory.
The Bulldogs advanced four teams to the State Tournament, which will take place in Jackson on May 4.
The other schools participating in the meet were Jim Hill, Wingfield and Terry.
“We’re extremely proud of the team,” Natchez assistant coach Margaret Beesley said. “We came out today ready to play. We’ve had three of our team who had lost to their opponents in the regular season and came back and defeated that opponent to win district.”
In girls singles, senior Eerie Wilson advanced to state after defeating Jim Hill in the finals.
Seniors Antwain Ross and LaKeisha Washington defeated Jim Hill in the semifinals and Terry in the finals to advance to state in mixed doubles.
Eighth graders Whitney Jackson and Valencia Bonds defeated Terry and Jim Hill to advance in No. 2 girls doubles while freshmen Norman Mosby and Monterro Bouldin defeated Jim Hill to advance in No. 2 boys doubles.
The other teams to advance to state were Jim Hill in No. 1 boys doubles and Terry in boys singles and No. 1 girls doubles.
“We’ve got some young girls and boys going (to state) and we have some seniors who have been putting the work in for four years and it finally paid off for them,” Beesley said. “We’re thrilled to take them to the State Tournament.”
