ACCS takes sloppy win

RAYVILLE, La. — Jake Brumfield’s grand slam keyed a six-run fifth inning as the Adams County Christian Rebels stayed perfect in District 3-AA play with a 7-4 win over Riverfield.
“It was a sloppy win for us altogether,” ACCS coach Hunter McKeivier said. “It was good to get the win with the way we played. We just didn’t play up to the capability these kids can play at.”
The Rebels committed six errors but got good pitching from Brumfield and Colin Dollar to overcome that.
“Six errors is the most we’ve had all year long,” McKeivier said. “We have to shake the cobwebs off. We’ve had so much rain it’s just kind of gotten us into a funk.”
The Rebel bats were silent the first four innings as Riverfield jumped out to a 4-1 lead.
However, ACCS came to life in the top of the fifth, as Brumfield’s grand slam keyed the offense and carried the Rebels to the victory.
Dollar kept Riverfield scoreless the final two innings to earn the save.
“He came in and shut down the door when we needed it,” McKeivier said. “He was able to take care of business in those last two innings.”
With the win, ACCS improved to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in district play.
The Rebels host Riverfield Friday in a varsity doubleheader. The first game will begin at 4 p.m.
“We’ve been playing good baseball and we want to keep it going,” McKeivier said. “It’s nice to have one little hiccup on the road and still be able to come out with the win. But we have to come out of (our funk) because we still have a tough district stretch ahead of us.”
