NATCHEZ — Cathedral finished off a clean sweep of the weekend with two dominating victories over Resurrection Saturday afternoon at Chester Willis Field.
One day after sweeping Sacred Heart, the Green Wave polished off Resurrection by a combined score of 33-1.
Cathedral won Game 1 of the doubleheader 15-1 and then came back in the nightcap to post an 18-0 victory despite playing through a cold drizzle.
“It was bad baseball conditions, cold and wet,” Cathedral coach Craig Beesley said. “But we made it through the day and came out with two wins.”
Like Friday’s games, Saturday’s contests were district games, so Cathedral starts off a quick 4-0 in district play.
“We had a good weekend,” Beesley said. “We got all the games in, which was the main thing because those teams travel from so far away.”
Doubles were the name of the game in Game 1. The Green Wave had 10 hits in the game, but five of those went for two bases.
Hunter Foster, Preston Edwards, Kole Junkin, Tyler Ballard and Daniel Jenkins all hit doubles for the Wave, while Ballard and Dylan White had multiple hits.
Cathedral scored 12 of its 15 runs in the first inning.
Jenkins got the win on the mound, holding Resurrection to just one hit.
The second game was even better for Cathedral.
The Green Wave pounded out 10 runs in the first inning and eight more in the second of the rout.
Hunter Foster and Jenkins had doubles for Cathedral while Foster was 2-for-2 in the victory.
Preston Edwards got the win for Cathedral, and didn’t allow any hits against the overmatched Eagles.
The two lopsided games allowed many of Cathedral’s younger players to play.
“It was good for some of the younger kids,” Beesley said. “But we didn’t get as many innings on the mound as we would have liked.”
The Green Wave next play on Thursday when they take on district opponent Salem in a doubleheader at Chester Willis Field.
