NATCHEZ — And the Grammy goes to … Charity Baroni.
Well, not exactly, but Baroni will be hearing those words in person when the Grammys are handed out tonight.
Baroni, an accomplished dancer and the daughter of Natchez native David Baroni, will be one of six backup dancers to pop singer Katy Perry.
David is a graduate of Cathedral High School. Baroni is the niece of Mark Baroni and the granddaughter of Louis Baroni, both of Natchez.
Baroni earned the dancing gig in a few months ago in Los Angeles.
“She lives in L.A. now, and she auditioned and they liked her and she got the call back,” David Baroni said. “She’s real excited about it.”
Charity moved to Los Angeles in May from Nashville and her dad said getting such a high profile job already is an accomplishment he and his daughter are both proud of.
“She’s only 21 and a lot of the other dancers are a good bit more experienced,” David said. “They have been at it for a while.”
This might be Baroni’s first Grammy performance, but she is no stranger to national television. She has also danced on the ABC show “Dance Wars: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann” in 2008.
At that time, Baroni was still living in Nashville and was chosen to compete on the show after auditions in Nashville and Los Angeles.
The music awards show will air at 7 p.m. on CBS. And the Baroni clan will be definitely be tuned in.
“Oh we will be glued to the television,” David said.
And he doesn’t think people will have any trouble spotting his daughter.
“She’s the only red head in the group,” he said. “I’m sure she will be visible.”
