Vidalia — For 8-year-old E-monnie Willliams, today is just a little bit brighter because she is waking up in her newly redecorated bedroom.
When The Dart landed on South Spruce Street in Vidalia, Williams’ grandmother Syvilla Carter was hard at work putting the finishing touches on Williams’ bedroom.
Carter said it was time to shed the “little princess theme for something a little older.”
So with the help of Williams, Carter set about to pick a new, more age appropriate theme. The new décor features one wall of brightly colored striped wallpaper in hot pink, lime green and purple, and the whole room is topped off with a wallpaper border of flowers, hearts and all things girly.
“It’s so beautiful,” Williams said of the special space.
The room also got a fresh coat of neutral paint color so that the wallpaper and border would be the shining star of the renovation.
But the color doesn’t end with the wallpaper in the formerly childish bedroom. Carter also had custom cornice boxes made for the windows.
“I’m going to make her some bright colored curtains to go over the windows,” Carter said.
Also being added to the new mature space is brand new furniture that Williams picked out herself.
“It is nice and pretty,” she said.
The furniture was delivered Saturday but had to wait outside for at least a few hours.
“I still have to shampoo the carpet,” Carter said.
The bedroom set includes a new headboard and footboard and a dresser and chest of drawers.
Williams isn’t overwhelmed by all the new storage space and felt certain that she would be able to fill up the drawers.
“I love clothes,” she said.
Williams’ bedroom isn’t the only room in Carter’s house that is getting revamped. Carter said she was nearing the end of a redecorating project that included new paint in several rooms and a new dinette set for the eating area.
“It has all been about six months in the making,” Carter said.
And the project, couldn’t be coming to an end at a better time. Carter said that with the holidays just around the corner her house will be filled with family gathered to give thanks.
The new, larger dinning table is also perfect for the meals associated with this time of year since it is bigger than her previous dinning set.
“We make a big meal with lots of homemade cakes and pies and seafood gumbo,” Carter said.
