NATCHEZ — Fourth Street Church of Christ in Natchez has a good history of community service and will further that reputation on Sunday with their inaugural Educators Appreciation service.

In the past the church has sponsored a back to school school supply drive and a health fair and blood drive.

They also host youth day where the service is geared toward youth and the type of world they live in.

Church organizers said the youth day program is an alternative to having nothing to do.

Sunday’s program will recognize educators from across the area for doing, what organizers said, is often a thankless job.

“What we are doing this Sunday is showing appreciation to the educators,” event organizer Cheryl Biggins said. “We have taken notice and observed their hard work and dedication.”

Biggins said information about the event has been sent to all the educators in each of the schools in Natchez.

“We sent invitations to all the schools and all the principals and vice principals and teachers,” Biggins said.

The program begins at 11 a.m. and certificates of appreciation and gift cards will be given to all the educators in attendance.

Biggins said Natchez–Adams School District superintendent Dr. Anthony Morris has been invited to attend.

Following the presentation of certificates, Biggins said there will time for those in attendance to express their gratitude to the communities educators.

“We know they have a hard job and are not being paid their worth,” Biggins said. “We appreciate them getting up day in and day out to educate our children.

“I believe our community doesn’t give enough recognition to our educators.”

Biggins said that although she has been the lead organizer for the event, it was the church’s pastor, Dwight Green, who came up with the idea.

The program is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Fourth Street Church of Christ at 29 Fourth St. in Natchez. For more information call the church at 601-442-2977.
