Ferriday Dixie Belles eliminated from World Series

ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Ferriday Dixie Belles dug themselves a hole once again in the Dixie Belles World Series.
But unlike Sunday’s game, on Monday they couldn’t quite climb out of it.
Ferriday spotted Liberty, Texas a 7-1 lead after three innings in an elimination game and fought back gamely before falling 7-6 and being eliminated from the World Series.
“Our bubble burst today,” Ferriday coach Rut Horne said. “We dug ourselves too big of a hole to climb out of.”
Ferriday jumped out on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning before Texas tied it with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Texas then opened the floodgates, scoring three runs in both the second and third inning.
Ferriday tried to come back, scoring twice in the top of the fourth, once in the fifth and twice more in the top of the sixth on a Desiree Buie two-run single.
Ferriday got the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the top of the seventh inning, but left them stranded on first and second base.
It was yet another close game for Ferriday, who has made a habit out of them throughout their tournament run.
“In our district and state tournaments and the World Series we played 12 games and nine of them were decided by one run,” Horne said. “I guess the law of averages will catch up with you at some point.”
Sloppy defense was the cause of several of Texas’ runs, as Ferriday made three errors in the game.
“We made a couple of errors that we don’t normally make and they made us pay,” Horne said. “We don’t usually make those kind of mistakes, but it just wasn’t to be.”
Despite the loss, Horne said the players should hold their heads up high.
“The kids have got a lot to be proud of,” Horne said. “How many of them can saay they’ve been to the World Series? It’s something I hope the girls cherish. The girls had a big time and enjoyed their stay in Alexandria. It was just a great experience for them.”
