HOOVER Ala. — Natchez High School track standout Alicia Wimley is one step closer to making the Junior Olympics.
Wimley qualified for the finals in two of the four events she is competing in — the 400 meters and the 100 meters.
Her two other events, the 200 meters and the triple jump, were postponed until tomorrow because of bad weather at the regional championships in Hoover, Ala.
Wimley finished first in her qualifying heat in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 58.67 seconds.
She finished third in her heat in the 100 meters, crossing the line with a time of 12.42 seconds.
The finals for all events will take place tomorrow, which means qualifying heats and finals of the 200 meters and triple jump will both take place on the same day.
The top four finishers in each event advance to the Junior Olympics in Omaha, Neb., in two weeks.
