Trinity netters to compete in State Tournament

NATCHEZ — After winning the MPSA district 3-AA tennis championship, the Trinity Episcopal Saints will have one team represent them in the State Tournament.
The mixed doubles team of Parker Brumfield and Savannah Vance finished second at the South State tournament on Tuesday and will play in the State Tournament May 7 at Mississippi College in Clinton.
The mixed doubles team success comes after the entire team finished first in the district meet, besting Riverfield by three points.
The boys team also won the district title with a half a point win over Chamberlain Hunt.
The girls team finished second, behind Riverfield.
It was the fifth different district championship a Trinity boys team has won this year, following district titles in football, basketball, baseball and track.
Individually, Molly Butts finished first in No. 1 girls singles in the district meet while Jordan Vance and Rudy Timm finished first in No. 1 and No. 2 boys singles, respectively.
Finishing runner-up in the district meet from Trinity was Brittany McCalip in No. 2 girls singles, Emory Smith and M.C. Iles in No. 2 girls doubles, Suci Singh and Langdon Morrison in No. 1 boys doubles and Brumfield and Vance in mixed doubles.
