FERRIDAY — LSU fans will get a chance to see the biggest prize in college football this afternoon.
Tigers radio play-by-play announcer Jim Hawthorne is touring the state with the 2007 BCS National Championship Trophy and will be at Lakeside Ford in Ferriday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Hawthorne has called radio sports action for more than 45 years and has been the “voice of the LSU Tigers” for the past 27, announcing football, men’s basketball and baseball.
The Tigers defeated the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 38-24 on Jan. 7 to finish the season 12-2 and capture their second national championship in the past five years.
The Vidalia and Ferriday chambers of commerce will host an “After Hours” on the location from 5 to 7 p.m., which will be catered.
The BCS National Championship Trophy is a Waterford crystal football valued at $30,000.
