JONESVILLE — Four people were killed in a two-car crash Monday, in which one of the vehicles was totally engulfed in fire.
The crash occurred at 9:45 a.m. on U.S. 84, two miles west of Jonesville, in Catahoula Parish.
Those killed were Terry Wayne Grant, 56, of Ferriday; Merthyr Reeves Mount Jr., 33, of Monterey, Charles David Gibson, 45, of Jonesville and Jackie Johnston Faircloth Gibson, 41, of Jonesville.
Mount was driving a Dodge truck eastbound on the highway when it collided with a westbound Chevrolet van driven by Grant, a press release from Louisiana State Police Troop E said.
Mount collided with the van while trying to pass another car.
After impact Mount’s truck caught fire. He could not be extricated and died at the scene.
Witnesses were able to remove three passengers — Gibson, Johnston and Kelly Hethcote — from Mount’s vehicle. Only Hethcote, 33, of Monterey, survived.
She was transported to Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, then to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.
She received critical injuries.
Grant, the other driver, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police are investigating, and routine toxicology tests are pending. The Catahoula Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine exact cause of death.
