NATCHEZ — A man in his mid-20s was shot once in the leg late Friday night.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Grant and Claiborne streets at approximately 11:15 p.m.

Police Chief Mike Mullins said the man told officers he was walking home on Grant Street.

“He said an individual just walked up to him and shot him in the leg,” Mullins said.

The man — whose name was unavailable at press time — was shot once in the thigh with a handgun, Mullins said. He was transported to Natchez Community Hospital.

The victim told police that the shooter wore a red-hooded jacket. He also said he did not know his assailant, Mullins said.

Police had not made an arrest as of press time.

The shooting is the second this week in which a person was struck. One man was killed Monday night at Village Square Apartments after he was shot multiple times. No arrest has been made in the first shooting.
