NATCHEZ — Washington, D.C., Yellowstone, the Florida Keys, the French Quarter and Natchez all have something big in common.
Gorgeous views, local charm and sites to see made all five sites worthy of Life magazine’s title “100 Places to See in your Lifetime.”
A view of the Mississippi River and the Delta Queen at Natchez occupy page 47 of the magazine’s special edition on shelves now.
The Natchez Chamber of Commerce ordered copies of the magazine to give as gifts, and views the publication as a great marketing tool for Natchez, chamber board Chairman Pat Biglane said.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community to take advantage of this magazine,” Biglane said. “You look at places like Charleston, S.C., Colonial Wiliamsburg and Washington, D.C., — it has all these places — and to be tied in with that, included in that family of places is pretty significant.”
Biglane found out Natchez was in the magazine when his sister, Natchez native Mary Jane Biglane Dahlander, discovered it in a store in Dallas, Texas.
The write-up on Natchez refers to the antebellum homes, the Natchez Indians and the Civil War.
The book does not rank the sites in order of preference, but does name a Top 10 at the beginning.
The Top 10 includes: the Great Beach at Cape Cod, Yosemite, the French Quarter, the Grand Canyon, Big Sur, Gettysburg, the Florida Keys, Hawaii’s Volcanoes, Yellowstone and Washington, D.C.
The magazine’s newsstand price is $10.99.
