NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was electrocuted Wednesday while working to install an air conditioning unit.
Jeffery Lynn Hinson, 53, was turning the unit around to level it to the ground when a live wire shocked him, his wife Connie said.
Hinson and a crew were working on Madison Street just before 1 p.m.
Hinson was self-employed and has owned and operated Hinson Ductworks for seven years.
Men working with Hinson called 911, and the Natchez Police Department was the first on the scene.
“He was already on the ground and unresponsive,” Sgt. Justin Jones said. “We started CPR until the ambulance service arrived.”
Hinson was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
He leaves behind Connie, his wife of 17 years, and two daughters, Maegan, 16 and Caitlynn, 11.
“He was an awesome man of God and a faithful believer,” Connie said. “Most people that know him knew him as a very outgoing person. He could never say no to anything. He loved to give. He would rather give than receive any day.”
Hinson was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Natchez. He graduated from high school in Meadville and was a lifelong resident of southwest Mississippi.
Because his death was work related, an autopsy will be performed.
Funeral arrangements are not yet set, but will be handled by Laird Funeral Home.
