Children giggled with excitement and few parents shed tears when they sent off their kids for a week of summer camp Monday.
Nearly 85 Concordia Parish children ranging from fourth- to sixth-graders began their journey to Camp Grant Walker Monday. With all their sheets, pillows, bug spray, cameras, junk food and gear packed they loaded up at the old courthouse in Vidalia.
Camp Grant Walker is a 4-H camp at the LSU Agriculture Center in Pollock, La.
Campers will be able to choose from five different tracks to determine how they will spend their week. The tracks include: outdoor adventure, fun and nutrition, technology world, C.S.I. wet n&8217; wild nature adventure and dramatic arts.
Adrien Mills said she was excited about making friends her first year at camp, but said she was concerned about choosing the right track.
Mills younger sister Evy Mills cried the night before because she has never been away from her sister that long before. Their mother Sarah Mills said she felt good about sending her older daughter to camp after she overcame the initial shock of being apart from her. &8220;I know she is with good people,&8221; she said.
Ashley Coco, a fourth time summer camper veteran, looks forward to going all year. Her mother Ginger Coco said with each camping session she gets to be less of a mother hen. Ashley Coco has attended the 4-H camp twice and been to Girl Scout camp twice.
&8220;I trust her and I know they take good care of her,&8221; Ginger said.
