Prairie View outscores Huntington

FERRIDAY, La. -&160;Prairie View Academy scored two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Huntington High 12-10 here Monday.

Huntington, 2-5, scored one run in the bottom of the inning, but left the bases loaded to end the game.

The Hounds had 11 errors on the night, including two dropped fly balls in the top of the seventh.

&uot;We’re still making too many mistakes,&uot; said Huntington High coach Greg Weatherly. &uot;We can’t win like that. We had our chances to win. But I did see some improvement over our last game (12-1 loss to Franklin). We put the ball in play better. We’re just making mistakes that are killing us.&uot;

Huntington had six hits, while Prairie View had nine hits and committed five errors.

The Hounds left eight runners on base.

After Prairie View pushed three runners across home plate in the top of the first, Huntington tied the game in their first at-bat as Kenneth Clayton walked, John Mark Bonnette was hit by a pitch, Luke Davis advanced the runners on a fielder’s choice and Cody Turnage doubled.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Wyatt Kemp hit a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4.

Home runs by Chase Cox and John Nelson put Prairie View up 6-4 in the fifth, but Huntington came back with three runs for a 7-6 lead.

Barrett Kiser singled, Davis walked, and Steve Hinton reached on an error.

Prairie View scored three in the sixth as Cox doubled. But Huntington tied the game at 9-9 as Kiser walked and Davis hit a home run.

Huntington hosts Briarfield at 5 p.m. today in a junior varsity and varsity contest.
