Probably a simple mistake that happened over a decade ago. She probably did not even know that checks were bad. Happened to me when banks changed ownership ( Magnolia Federal to Union Planters to Britton and Koontz all in the same year or so. This would not have made the news if this was the principal of VHS. Can anybody say TABLOID !!! Keep selling papers and destroying lives of good people Julie. Hope you sleep good at night. Remember what goes around comes around. A decade old rubber check for less than $100 is not worthy of front page news !!!

On Ferriday High School principal arrested

Posted on November 18 at 5:42 p.m.

Mr. Cooper it seems as if you are resorting to childish schoolyard antics like when a child gets mad when he is losing he takes his ball so the others can't play anymore. You could have shown more integrity by at least waiting a day or two to respond to the Mayor's article. Were you that upset. I am a firm believer that words that you should wipe off words/statements if you know that they are not true and at the end of the day your actions and character will speak for themselves. I tell you what, since you know so much about how to run the town and the best ways to improve Natchez, why don't you run for Mayor in 2008. I'm quite sure you will be supported by many no life, sit on the cpu all day pulpitters who think that this is still 1965. Just remember that you are not the voice of Natchez. I am quite sure that West is not the first person who has turned in articles with mispelled words/typos but he is the first that was criticized for doing such. Are you implying that he is dumb. Say it, don't beat around bushes.

On Mayor needs to stick to facts not offer spin

Even though I have also been critical of Mayor West's leadership at times , I agree with him 100 percent that the Natchez Democrat often reports half truths. Most of Cooper's articles seem to have integrity but he may have gone overboard with his attack on Binky Vines even though Binky was wrong for what he had done. I know for a fact that July Finley reports lies and propoganda and is very biased against a certain segment of the community when reporting false information that are intended to slander the parties involved in a discreet way. I also know for a fact that the paper is selective of putting "Letters to the Editior" or "Top of the Mornings" in the paper when people write in to say positive things about people who they are against. Julie Finley has no integrity and she should be given her walking papers before she causes someone to sue her for her vicous cycle of misinforming residents of Natchez and intentionally trying to destroy people in a cowardly way. Kevin is fine for the most part but you should cut your losses and let her go ASAP. If a regular citizen of Natchez would have written this article I bet anything that it would not have been printed. I support you on this one Mayor West.

I agree with you that most of the elected officials are basically dressing up and pretending to be the leaders that they are not. The only ones that I feel have any principle are Mathis and B. West even though he has made some mistakes in his personal life, but who hasn't. These are the people that citizens in Natchez voted to represent them and that is what they are now doing with no need from input from you. The people who voted for them and are complaining about this meeting not being public will be the same ones holding signs and going from door to door to get votes for the in the next election. You get what you vote for.

On Leaders’ actions don’t match crime priorities

Posted on October 28 at 11:52 a.m.

When I was young my friends and I were sitting outside when an argument was going on across the street from us. Eventually we witnessed a man shooting a lady in the head. She didn't die. Of course we ran when the man started shooting. The man took off after the shooting. Of course we saw enough to help the police and the victim was our neighbor. However, we had people in the neighborhood whom were educated professionals who pulled us away from the police so we would not be able to tell them anything. I couldn't understand at that time why I couldn't tell who shot my neighbor ( a lady ) in the head but even then many many years ago there was a code of the streets and in the black communities you have to go by them or face the consequences. It's sad and terrible but that's just the way it is. Once you are labeled as a snitch it would be best to move you and your family out of town because retaliation is coming, the only question is when.

On Witness reluctance biggest crime problem

What those that don't come from an environment in which gun activity occurs from frequently to every now and then, fail to realize is that we are taught to get on the ground if you are outside and the floor if you are inside and crawl to the hallway, restroom under bed, etc. when you hear shots being fired. People don't look out windows until you know that the shooting is over. It's basically human nature. Bullets don't have names. If you would have heard all those shots would you look out the window or open the door and risk being hit by a stray bullet ? The weather was also wet and cold the night Jones was murdered so who would be sitting outside late just chilling ? I admit there is a STOP SNITCHING code that exists in Natchez and throughout urban cities. If you tell, especially in such a small town where everybody knows everything that occurs, you can expect some form of retaliation against you or your family. I lost family,Jerrel Harris ( 20 yrs old) a few years ago from this same scenario. His family even told police on numerous occasions that his life had been threatened several times but they took no action and he was killed ( drive by ) by the brother of the person who he was to testify against. This is why we are reluctant to assist police who most blacks don't trust anyway.

On Don’t give criminals upper hand

I do have a problem with Morris, most of the board and any employee in Natchez schools who mistreat the students that they obviously do not care for and are unable to relate to them and could give a hoot about trying to find a medium between them to help them become better students and future citizens who are able to productively exist in our country instead of being trapped in prisons, jails, low income housing areas, unemployment, drug abuse, etc. for the majority of their lives. I would comment more about the recent crime problem as well but what most fail to realize is that their is a direct link between a lack of education and crime. We have yet to see the worse. I am not really concerned because most criminals don't target those that they respect in this area. What do we expect to have in Natchez in the future when our public high school has one of the highest dropout rates in the state. What do we expect these people to do to make ends meet when there are very few jobs available and most want instant gratifaction and have not been taught that they have to WORK for what they want in America. They can't go to the military and they would not have the discipline to make it there or in most jobs as well. Please do not be threatened by the word revolutionary becuase it simply is defined as a complete circle of change. The school system is not the only faction I have a problem with. I have a problem with a M.I.A. Mayor , have you seen him, crooked black aldermen who give black men terrible representation and all elected officials that you don't see until election time as well. We need a complete circle of change in Natchez or this will be a mini New Orleans five or ten years from now. I cannot put the total blame on the terrible leadership in the schools, it also must fall on unconcerned parents who are failing to raise their children properly and are unconcerned with their education and fail to teach them morals, values, respect, love of God and model appropriate behavior and citizenship as well. Most childrens heros are their parents. What more can we expect from students when their heros don't work and sleep most of the week drink alcohol and use drugs in their childens presence, yet are still able to go to the grocery store when the stamps come and buy expensive foods which most working people are not able to afford, talk about mess all day on the phone, fight and get arrested every now and then, use all types of language and listen to all types of negative music. The only time many of them get out is when the go to the mall to buy an outfit for the club on Friday or Saturday before heading off to the club at 3:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning instead of being in the bed preparing for church. It is not all Morris and boards fault but they are not concerned at all with trying to work to improve the current situation. Everything begins and ends with a good education if a person is to make it especially African Americans.

On Centreville school receives Level 5 ranking

This school is in Wilkinson Co., not Amite. Did you know that the Principal of the Middle School there is the from Natchez. As a matter of fact he was level 5 as well not too long ago before he made the mistake of trying to save a school( Lewis Middle) in a mission impossible situation with a horrible supetendent, school board and parents who think that a middle school is a daycare. Obviously the superintrndent of Wilkinson knows and appreciates talented intelligent young men and is not intimidated by them like Morris and His Knights/Queens and in betweens of the school board who team up and run off good people without reason. There are also many good teachers, like Angela Brooks, NHS Spanish, who have chosen to leave their home of Ntz and make less money to work in Woodville. Maybe parents should start shuttling their kids there, at least until they get rid of Morris and the board. Way to go Woodville Schools !!!

Those who at least claim to be Christ-like should at least have the decency to let this young man recover from what may still be a life threatening injury before speculating that something fishy has occurred with this situation.
