McCain is right man for country
Published Tuesday, July 1, 2008
One evening in July 2007 Sen. John McCain arrived at the home of Erin Flanagan of New Hampshire. Sen. McCain wanted to have a heartfelt talk with her about Iraq. At a recent Republican presidential debate she had asked the candidates what they would do to bring the troops home. Her brother had been killed in action a few months earlier.
The news media was not notified of this meeting, it was kept private. Sen. McCains’ youngest son, James McCain, 19, accompanied him. At the time James was a private first class in the Marine Corps, soon to leave for Iraq.
Sen. McCain, as the presumptive Republican nominee, has promised the American people that our troops can bring stability to Iraq. What he rarely adds is that one of them is his own son. I believe Sen. McCain wants to bring stability to Iraq as soon as possible, once that is accomplished, any remaining U.S. troops will soon be home.
James McCain spent seven months patrolling Anbar Province in Iraq and has first hand knowledge of the success of U.S. Strategy in Iraq. The Iraqi police and the Iraqi military are gradually taking over the role of enforcing law and order, and fighting the non-government militias, the role previously held by the U.S. military. The militias are on the run. If this progress continues, I believe that virtually all of our troops involved in the fighting should have returned from Iraq within four years, not one hundred years. Any U.S. Military presence that remains will only serve in an advisory capacity for the Iraqi police and Iraqi military.
Two of James McCain’s three older brothers also went into the U.S. military. Doug McCain, 48, was a Navy pilot, but is now a civilian. Jack McCain, 21, will soon graduate from the Naval Academy.
John McCain is a true American patriot from a family of patriots. We need someone like John McCain for our next U.S. President. We need him because of the values he holds. Time and time again in his life he has shown that he puts America and Americans first, even above himself. He will continue the successful strategy of keeping America safe. He has a plan for the energy crisis, not just drilling for oil, but also a comprehensive alternative energy plan. He will not raise taxes on the middle class, which will push them into poverty. I could go on and on.
With his experience he is what America and Americans need at this time in our history. Inexperience at this time may bode very badly for the future of our country, because inexperience will result in wrong decisions no matter how sincere the intentions are to do the right thing.
If Churchill had been the first to face Hitler, World War II may have been avoided, and millions of lives saved. You can’t appease or accommodate evil people, you have to stand firm and threaten to fight if necessary.

McCain is the right man for this country, IF you want 4 more years of the SAME crap you're getting now! There was just 6.7 billion, if I am correct, allocated next year for the war. McCain will have no problem with this, since he is a war-monger who has stated we would be in Iraq for 100 more years. Now, I do agree with him on that stance, since so many were lulled into this chocked up war in the first place. Now, there is no way to just pack up and get out, not after we have devastated Iraq in the name of "giving" them Democracy or "liberating" these people. What started out as a war to disarm this country of it's WMDs, has now become a "liberating" mission. Isn't that just a bit convenient?

I myself am a vet, but Mr. Nosser's opinion about what qualifies one for a label of patriot is a large part of the reason we have a problem with terrorists.
The military is neither our highest order of endeavor nor is it a benign source of protection. And certainly, a history family or otherwise of military endeavor in support of other presidents is not proper qualification to be a president yourself.
When presidents misuse American covert forces and the military -- as Eisenhower did against Iran by installing the Shah, as Johnson did in Vietnam, and as Reagan did in the Iran/Iraq War, as Daddy Bush did in DS, and as Little George did in Iraq, there are expensive and bloody reprisals. We experienced one of those reprisals on 9/11. WE have converted Iraq to a terrorist enclave, compared to what it was before we arrived.
People over there feel a righteous indignation -- much as the people of Mississippi would become incensed if a foreign power invaded us and killed us without penalty. Out of every thousand or so that suffer the loss of a loved one, two or three become engaged in terror activities.
So now our president tells us we are not safe, since others want to kill us. He never says they actually want to kill us BACK. He keeps that part silent because it would expose him to public ire.
We will not feel a real relief from terror until we stop killing more Muslims than they kill of us. I know that doesn't sound good, that many would like to ignore that more killing of innocents in pursuit of our policy is the absolute truth of what our policy really does.
Oil, government jobs, insulation from punishment for the excesses of war, and the politics of winning elections become hopelessly woven in the flag-waving and the justifications.
John McCain is a fine man I am sure. His history of being the war hero who got caught does not qualify him to lead us out of the mess that was made by his political party. Nor does the fact that his family has a history of making the same choices of career.

This is a good article, thank you Mr. Nosser for you information about Mr. McCain's sons. I didn't know that.
I do agree that McCain is the best choice and right for our country.
Teach- you information is twisted, Sadam devestated that country long before we went in and gave them liberty. Now we have a strong ally in freedom there and they are stepping up to the plate and we will and are withdrawing troops. The WMD issue was not the only issue at hand for liberating Iraq, in fact we know Sadam had WMD's because we gave them to him in the 80's, and anyone that is correctly informed knows that he killed over 100,000 Kurds with chemical weapons. Sadam's generals have written books, which have conveniently not been given much press, that give great detail how the WMD's were packed up and shipped to Syria by air cargo planes. The comment about 100 years that you so conveniently (as Obama's people have schooled you to do) taken out of context was relative to the fact that we are in many countries around the world - Germany, S. Korea, Phillipines, Japan, etc- and that we will stand by our allies as long as it takes, unless you would rather that the USA not be an honorable country and defend liberty as needed. That is a ridiculous statement to say that McCain is a warmonger, just look at his position on torture and border control (which I disagree with I think we should torture terrorists for info and we should be tough as possible on illegal immigrants) yes he wants peace by strength, but he doesn't want war.
Yeahuhhuh- you are a twisted soul and obviously of the opinion that we deserve terrorism for our wrongs to the Muslims, which is wrong. We have sent so much foreight aid to muslims it is foolish to say that we have wronged muslims, yet we have taken measures against Islamic fundamentalists that support terrorism. I'm sure you agree with Gen. Clark on his philosophies, which I hope he continues to espouse continuing to make Obama look bad. What a disgrace Gen. Clark is to the military.
Would you liberals rather us return to isolationism as the country was prior to WWII which allowed tyranny and evil (Nazis) to conquer the whole of Europe before we wake up and fight for freedom and protect the innocent by having troops at the ready posted around the globe in strategic positions. Would you rather allow our enemies to attack and fight them here in this country? Are you ready to have kids blown up in school buses at your neighborhood school? You have to choose, to allow evil to flourish by doing nothing, or stamp it out by taking action.

McCain will not be like Bush or any other past president. You must be for: the failure of the Iraqi government and the take over of Iraq by Iran, the U.S. to become bankrupt by buying oil from overseas rather than drilling our own oil and keeping our money, solving our energy crisis with windmills alone, negotiating with radical governments while they plot the destruction of democracies world wide, eliminating the Free Trade Agreement and allowing the resumption of the bad economic policy of isolationism, raising taxes on the rich and thereby also putting the burden on the middle class because the rich can't come up with the Billions of dollars needed if you took everything they had.
McCain has also stated he hates war, so clearly he is no war monger, and clearly he cannot keep U.S. troops in Iraq more than an additional 8 years. There were WMD in Iraq, some are still intact today in Syria. To have found those weapons we would have had to look in Syria, not Iraq after Sadam was captured.
We are making progress in Iraq and we will be out of there long before 100 years has passed. We are winning in Iraq. The Iraqi people have another election coming up soon and I think you will see them continue to develop a democratic secular government suited to Iraqi culture.
You need to stop blaming America for the problems of the world and research the real causes.

Yeahuhuh
If you want to blame someone for the problem with terrorists, blame the terrorists. So where do you look for the source of the problem with the terrorists? In the terrorists culture or belief system.
You are uninformed about what is really behind virtually all of the terrorism in the world today. The violence conducted by the terrorists is just a small part of the overall danger to democracies around the world, including Israel. There is much more to it than the violence and terrorism.
McCain's military service was presented to show how it shaped his values. His military service is only a part of the value and experience package of John McCain. His service as a U.S. Senator is another part. McCain's service as a Senator gives him a dozen times more experience than his opponent. Look at McCain's ideas on energy, the economy, taxes, world trade, etc. His platform is light years ahead of his opponent.
Senator McCain's opponent is a good speaker, but that is the only true solid skill he can bring to the table. That skill qualifies him only for giving speeches. A President needs to be much more than a good speaker, and really could get by with just being an average speaker.
Quit blaming America and American Presidents for creating terrorism. That is not true. Showing weakness and disunity will just embolden the terrorists and they will step it up. If we show them that we will attack them, and that we are strong and united, they will cut and run like they have started doing in Iraq. But first we have to help Iraq defeat them completely and help them prevent future attacks as successfully as Israel has.
If you want to begin your education on the true origins of terrorism in the Middle East go to the web site americancongressfortruth.org, and also buy the book by Bridget Gabriel, "Because They Hate."
Quit guessing about what people over there feel. Research the facts. The web site above has a book list and and list of other fact based web sites that can give you a good start on reading the facts.

Well put jn08300
Why is it that so few people pay attention to the fact that the WMD's were transported to Syria?
I'm glad to see that someone else noticed that important bit of information over the past few years.
I wish I could remember the name of the book that that general of Saddam Hussein's published. This particular general cooperated with our military during the liberation of Iraq.

They are voting for Obama because he is black. They all know he does not have the qualifications. The media adores him because he is pro abortion and pro gays. You know there was something written over two thousand years ago that sounds like him....very glib tongue and people blinded to his faults. Look it up, the similarities are amazing.

frog
you are correct about his position
Obama even refused to vote against postbirth abortion.
Postbirth abortion is when the baby is born and they kill it.
Nothing short of murder. It's crazy that that is done in this country. There are various types of abortion. I see that it might be arguable and defensible to kill a new fetus, but the partial birth abortion and the post birth abortions are simple murder. Partial birth is when the baby's head is crushed just before birth. Post birth is after the baby is born and the baby is killed. We must put an end to this.
Abortion should, in my mind, only be allowed in cases where the mother will not survive, incest, or rape. Abortion should not be used for birth control.

Bobaloo -
what do you propose?
liberal, moderate, conservative - those are logical descriptions of one's philosophy of life and politics. This is a good way to communicate effectively how a person will make decisions concerning issues that are important and affect people.
To me that is very important.

Thanks fellows for your opinions of my opinions. You guys remind me why we are at the bottom of so many lists.
I know it's hard to accept that our policies kill more innocent people in the Middle East than they kill of us -- and they basically always have in the modern era. You guys who ignore that fact would be better men, better soldiers and would make a better country if you had the courage to face the fact.
It doesn't take much courage to point a finger, ignore the truth of history, and utter what you're told to utter by false patriots.
And I know it is hard to believe that when someone goes nuts with righteous anger they might actually be justified even though we will have to kill them to shut them up. Just like Iran might be justified in seeking nuclear weapons after we helped arm their enemy with nukes and overthrew their government in the 50's and still try to destabilize them whenever we can.
I don't disagree with surgical strikes to kill the terrorists. But you people that think military strikes are just fine because you don't even notice how many innocents you kill are lame.
And please don't be the dumb redneck and pull the race card with comments like anyone who won't support your goon is just voting for blackness. You remove all doubt about your character.

Excuse me if I ruffled anyone's feathers.
It's going to be a long and contentious election, and a lot of people are going to invoke the ancient wisdoms and want to elect the same bunch of crooks -- or their former aides, that didn't go to prison.
I'm sorry, but I live my life by conservative principles and the GOP has shown itself to be totally untrustworthy.
It's time for a change of course as we undo the work of a president who betrayed conservative citizens even more than he did liberal citizens.
You might want to vote the man, but the only thing you get for sure is the party.
John McCain is not a strong enough man to keep the GOP moral. They never have really listened to him.

Yeah/ We are sorry that you are at the bottom of whatever you are at the bottom of? Apparently you are not a conservative, it surely does not sound like it? Stay focused and maybe you will make it! Pick the lesser of the two and go with McCain!

Rushinghjr you silver tongued devil, why if someone disagrees with you do they have to be at the bottom of something?
And look at what you're saying. A few months ago it was McCain the Republicans were saying was not a conservative. Now that he's their only hope, it is anyone who opposes you that is not a conservative -- or you guys just have no integrity about what you say moment to moment.
I presented a good moral argument that explains terror and shows the spine to stand up to the MOST corrupt bunch of crumbs that has ever moved into Washington.
If you can't afford morals when a politician is blowing your color of smoke up your patootie, then just say it. Don't kill the messenger to hide the truth.
I think you are going to be disappointed with the level of trust the nation has with all things Republican.

My Husband served 20 years in the military, my son is active duty military, my brother served 10 years, the other brother 4 years, my sister 4 years, father 4 years, step father 8 years and three uncles a combined 20 years. I traveled with my husband through out his career. Does this make him qualified to be Commander in Chief? We have lived in three countries. Does this mean we have foreign trade experience? I speak 2 languages and my husband and I make a combined salary of 200,000 each year. Did I mention, that he's met 2 presidents personally and I have been photographed with George Bush senior. We have a Mayor and Alderman in our family. Does this mean that we are political material? I think not. It only means, that we have a family of people who served in the armed forces and are capable of working. Vote for the person who best fit your beliefs and wallets. These are the things that are important.

Our soldiers get 6-13 weeks of training, with maybe a few more months added to that, prior to being deported to Iraq...so, my questions is...why is it taking so long to get the Iraqis trained to do their own fighting? If we can't get them trained in 5 years, I don't know if we ever will.
braqui who would Jesus bomb? Won't God be checking our hands for powder burns and blood stains as well as our words? Won't he wonder why we lusted after our neighbors' oil? He may ask us, as he did Cain, where is your brother?

Peace007, your wonderings about our national conscience are laudible.
I have this thought to offer.
Has anyone else noticed that conservatives institutionalize violence into the hands of government, then assume their government can do no wrong?
They imprison more people, criminalize anything they disagree with, shoot or bomb first then insist the "had to" do it, or they simply ignore innocent deaths their policies cause. Then, they remove choice from poor women's reproductive responsibilites and claim that makes them pro-life. When terrorists strike us back, they act like terrorists dreamed up killing all on their own, yet at the heart of nearly all "terror" is reprisal against acts that conservatives don't seem to remember doing.
After all that, conservatives claim to anyone that will believe them that they want less government. How dumb do you have to be to continue to believe that?
SENTAS said it best, above.
