Casino dodges sale

Published Friday, September 18, 2009

NATCHEZ — A deal struck Monday between Grand Soleil Casino Resort and United Mississippi Bank, kept the bank from moving forward on foreclosure proceedings against the casino.

Grand Soleil attorney Kent Hudson said he was not at liberty to divulge details of the settlement between the two parties.

“It’s a business transaction,” Hudson said of the hotel and Briars property. “They were able to come to an agreement with the bank that brought resolution to the issue.”

The casino’s property was set for sale Thursday.

And this month was not the first time the casino was able to dodge foreclosure.

In February the casino was able to reach a deal with Britton & Koontz, which kept that bank from moving forward on foreclosure on three tracts of land owned by the casino.

Hudson has said financial woes as of late were due to the weakened economy and the resulting wariness of national investors.

I really wish they would just do something and stop all of the talks. Either the casino is going to do what it's supposed to do or they need to get rid of it. This has gone on for far to long. Promises are made and never kept. I say if these people don't have the renovations to the boat started by Jan. 1 then all banks need to foreclose on the deal and get rid of that boat that is just sitting there for nothing. It's not helping the city none by just sitting there and I know a lot of people are tired just like I am of hearing about a casino that seems to be going nowhere fast or soon I shall say!!

How did they dodge the foreclosure? I bet if I owed that much money, I couldn't get out of it. Besides which, it's my money they are using. Maybe I better take it all out and put it "in a tin under the house" like Acorn employees advise.
