Stevens leading sheriff’s investigation division

Published Monday, September 7, 2009

NATCHEZ — Since late July the Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigation division has been under the leadership of a new man.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Maj. Ricky Stevens replaced former Maj. Jody Waldrop as the office’s manager of the investigation division.

“His knowledge and his experience made him the ideal person to fill the position,” Adams County Sheriff Angie Brown said. “He definitely knows what he’s doing; we have a lot of confidence in him.”

Waldrop, as a result of leg injury he received several years ago, was declared disabled and unable to work after complications with the long-time injury resurfaced again months ago.

Waldrop could not be reached for comment Friday.

Brown said while no one at the sheriff’s office was happy to learn Waldrop was no longer able to work, naming Stevens as Waldrop’s replacement wasn’t difficult.

“He was the obvious choice,” Brown said.

Stevens began his law enforcement career in 1976 at the Natchez Police Department.

He worked under Adams County Sheriff Tommy Ferrell before retiring.

After Sheriff Ronny Brown was elected, Stevens came out of retirement and returned to the ACSO.

And now, with his promotion he has no future plans for retirement.

“This is a little more pressure,” Stevens said of his new job. “But it’s nothing I can’t handle.”

Ricky stevens is a good person and i like him. I think he's definately one of the better officers we have. He will at least make an attempt to investigate. What happened to that "cold case detective" they had up there, . . . horace sumrall ? That's the real smart guy that lives in monterey but works for acso and pals around with al johnson. I'm pretty sure That's his job is to entertain the judge because it can't be to investigate anything. The last "cold case" he "solved" was the mark brown murder. He did such a bang up job on that one that his prime suspect got found not guilty in trial . Let's hope Ricky can at least do better than him.

Major Stevens spends a lot of time in a local pawnshop...the same shop that cashed "cash foe gold checks" from the Foster Mound burglars. I guess he and the owner assumed that the two young thugs must have discovered Adams Counties first gold mine>

Congratulations Ricky!!! I can think of no one more deserving.
And Jody; I hope things get better with your injury and good luck.
I also hope all the false judgements about people that are posted on this website don't come back and bite people in the butt. What's wrong with being less judgemental every now & then?

i am not being judgmental bc everyone facts must be crossed cuz as far as i know it was jody and charles harrigal not horace summerall. jody opened the whole cold case unit so i hate the fact that he is no longer able to work. he was serious about his job he solved my best friend Rena Davis's murder....and as far as mark brown i was close friends with his brother and larry got off on a technicallity(snitch) thats what thats called and we can probably thank our last sheriff for that....i never said anything about Ricky Stevens he is a good guy but lets just hope he works as hard as Jody did.....congrats Jody on all u did for adams county.

one more thing about having faith in our law "enforcement"this time 2 years ago my daughter and i were failed by the so called sheriffs department. she was raped at 6 years old by her half brother at her grandmothers house guess what happened to the brother 6 months probation and the grandmother was found guilty of child abuse and neglect and never served a lick of time thats why i think this town is hilarious bc its all in who u know and what strings can be pulled.......so much for my belief in justice in this town and all the judges suck .....somebody needs to have a reelection on judges.....amen thank God is the only one i thank cuz if i had taken the law in my own hands justice would have been served my way.....justice failed us on more than one occassion so i am glad for anyone on here that knows these deputies cuz u just might actually get justice or get out of trouble one.

Honeybee

Law Enforcement that's just what it means they enforce the law they are not the judge or the jury. The sheriff's department can only present cases the judges have to find them guilty or not guilty. i understand what you are saying but i don't think you can blame the sheriff's department.

tazgirl39120 u just said it they are to enforce the law so why wouldn't they let me persue charges against the grandmother? thats what i am talking about once the grandmother was found guilty i had a right to take it to the law to have her arrested judge hudson couldn't do it it was up to the sheriff department and they refused to let me press charges....so please answer that for me..she had more pull than me thats my answer but thats okay bc i guess she will pay in the long run for what she did. not being rude tazgirl this crap just really turned my life upside down and around it seems.....no offense cause i think we need new judges these same old judges have been around to long we need new judges to....

You are right, new experienced judges are needed in Adams County. i don't know why the sheriff's department did not let you file charges, but i do know it's up to the judges to sign the warrant if that is not done the nothing gets done. ( by the way no offense taken).
