What is this?
Recreation panel lacks woman’s voice
Published Wednesday, October 21, 2009
I attended the forum on the recreation ballot issue and listened to a panel of all men.
Women know as much and care as much about recreation as men do, and their absence was striking.
I certainly hope the city, county and school board will appoint women to the commission that will implement this project if it passes.

LOL! Shut up and cook me a pot pie.
Hey, Casey, I don't see any women out there on the road crews, No letter for that?

Since the Chamber of Commerce sponsored this forum, Casey could ask the CC why no women were included on the panel. After all, the two ring leaders for the forum were women.

I nominate Sally Durkin to represent the women's point of view on the recreation committee.

For years I heard how the girl's softball teams always got the short-end-of-the-stick at Duncan Park. It sounds to me like Casey has a valid question. And the question remains valid no matter who appointed the all-male panel. I would think that the people who are pushing this recreation facility would try to answer her question and also endeavor to be "inclusive" since this is coming up for a vote.

I believe an answer from the people who are pushing the recreation facility would be most appropriate.
Is this a reflection of poor planning/judgement?

Now I don't think just having a token woman on board should be a problem.
Most guys are controlled by women.

You couldn't be more wrong. There are a lot of strong women behind this. You are not looking at a committee. You are looking at volunteers. No one has been appointed to do anything. They all are doing this for free. Who do you think owns the radio station that is providing valuable airtime to promote recreation. Yep. She's a woman.

A Recreational facility any way you look at it cost's money that isn't there! Maybe 60 people showed up, well from the pictures the people that showed up look like garndparents, not parents. It also seems that those in favor all have a stake in a Rec. center!

Sounds to me like "Crakalakin" has some serious problems with women. Just sayin'.

Mr. Tenzing, I agree with you about Mr. Crakalan. But my brother Sibley has always told me that there are lots and lots of guys in Natchez that do not like girls. But I think girls are nice.
By the way, I have always admired you for climbing that big mountian with Mr. Sir Hillry.

I mean, there's a way to make your point without saying "shut up and cook me a pot pie." It's easy to make it personal when the letter-writer has her name out there for everyone to see, and you're just good old anonymous Crakalakin.
I asked the Democrat to remove that comment, by the way. I'm sure it'll stay there, because it's fine to tell someone to shut up and cook me something when someone is a woman. Just fine. Crakalakin: call the PC police! I know that's one of your pet peeves.
The view was nice, thanks.

Good post, tenzing. I don't write letters to the Democrat because bloggers can anonymously write hateful things when the person writing the letter has put his/her name on their opinion.

God, people the first post was a joke. Grab a sense of humor the next time you are at Wal Mart.
The second post is just truth which is why it was pulled. I never see women complaining about the lack of female trash collectors, construction workers, etc., just for the high-up "important" positions.
As I said in the post that was pulled, why does gender even matter? Why does this woman feel it necessary to make the recreation complex discussion about her and what gender people she wants to see on the commission?
This is the comments section of a newspaper site, not a blog. We are "commenters", not "bloggers". You would need to start your own blog to be a blogger.

And for the record, people who think they are owed positions because of their gender or race are whiny pathetic excuses for human beings. How's that for "hateful"?
