Missed chance leaves ACCS with loss to Silliman

CLINTON, La. — After blocking a punt late in the fourth quarter and being down only three points, Adams County Christian felt pretty good about its chances of coming from behind against Silliman Institute Friday.

Unfortunately for the Rebels, a missed opportunity killed any chance of a comeback, as Sillman edged out ACCS 18-15.

ACCS missed a pass on fourth and 12, turning the ball over on downs with 1:20 left in the game.

Rebels head coach Paul Hayles said his team was unable to capitalize on opportunities.

“We just could not get it done when we needed to (on offense),” Hayles said. “We had some opportunities, and put our defense in such a bind. We had good special teams too, we just didn’t do well in all three facets of the game.”

Silliman scored first on a 47-yard run in the second quarter. ACCS responded with a 25-yard pass from quarterback Kent Yates to Daniel Guedon for a touchdown reception later in the second.

In the fourth quarter, Taylor had a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown for Silliman. ACCS followed up with a safety.

Silliman’s Cody Donze tallied a 3-yard touchdown run later in the fourth.

The final touchdown of the game came on a 24-yard reception by the Rebels’ Lee Swinney. ACCS fell to 5-4 on the season, 1-2 in District 5-2A. Silliman improve to 4-4 on the season, 1-2 in District 5-2A.
