Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold, right, and officers from the U.S. Marshal Service apprehend Brian Fields from an Arlington Avenue house Wednesday. Field is wanted for the February murder of Maher Ali Khali in New Orleans.
New Orleans murder suspect arrested
Published Thursday, October 15, 2009
NATCHEZ — A man wanted for murder in New Orleans was arrested Wednesday morning in Natchez.
The Natchez Police, working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshal Service — Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Brian Fields, 21, at 318 Arlington Ave., at approximately 11 a.m.
After making entry into the residence, Fields was in plain view and police were able to make the arrest without major incident.
The suspect has been staying in Natchez in recent months, and after he was seen recently, police were able to track him to that address, Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said.
“We got another murderer off the streets,” Godbold said.
Fields was wanted in connection with the February death of Maher Ali Khalil, 29, and was considered armed and dangerous.
Officers found Khalil lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to the head.
He later died in a New Orleans hospital.

Way to get your picture in the paper godbold just in time for the election. Won't help ya none but you look nice in your little bulletproof vest on the front page. I'm sure krogers will be so proud.

Praise God some good news. Thanks to all law enforcement.

Poor, pitiful, petty mrbobo. If you couldn't give credit where credit was due, you should have kept quiet. The man is out there doing a great job. Would you have gone into that house to arrest an accused murderer? And if you would, would you have been so brave... or stupid not to have worn a vest? Your suggestion that this was a staged photo op is just plain ridiculous.
Not one of the men seeking the office of sheriff deserve the kind of comments you made about officer Godbold.

Good Job LEO's !!!!
It's good you got him off the streets, regardless to what time of the year it is....
Look at Officer Johnson in the Background (lol)....

Geesh I guess the people he was staying with didn't know he was wanted. Seems to be like the situation we are facing in Iraq, and Afghanistan where people will not point the bad guys out and the cycle of violence spins on, what they should do is start taking anyone in the house into custody maybe that will stop some of this.

Geeze some of you people never cease to amaze me with your idiotic comments - they caught a murderer off the streets and the first comment is "way to get your picture in the paper...." - geeze just shut up and go to bed.

What the heck would society be like without our law enforcment officers? mrbobo probably wouldn't be able to make such absurd statements. Bet he would be kissing officer Godbolds FEET (or another part of his anatomy) were he to come in contact with someone pointing a gun to him and Godbold rescued him!

AMEN to that rocketman! Instead of ONLY showing respect to the cashier at your local McDonalds taking your order the local law enforcement is who you should pay the utmost respect to.

The people that he was living with on Arlington Ave. had to know they were harboring a fugitive. They should be charged with a crime too. It's not that they are respecting some kind of a moronic silence code, they are part of the problem.

Way to go Craig. Whether it's my little brothers kicking in doors in Iraq or @$$crackistan, or local LEOs doing it here, it takes guts. You never know what goes on behind closed doors and who or what is waiting.

I'm proud of Godbold and I agree...it takes guts to do what he does. I'm sure his bullet-proof vest is too small because OF THE CRAPPY BUDGET THEY HAVE TO WORK WITH!!!!

MRBOBO---GOTTABEHAPPY---HUMOME--NATASHAKUBLIKOV---
You should be so ashamed. I guess you have the right to your opinion since there are many GOOD people dying each day to make sure you have the freedom to do so. Your constant derogatory remarks are uncalled for and certainly are not appreciated by the most of us. Do something with your life instead of taking up good space singing the same ole monotonous song.

Godbold would have been the one going in to get this criminal whether he was running for sheriff or not. Seems that whenever there is a leading story on a criminal being arrested, Godbold is the one kicking down the door.
Good work!

There is no disrespect intended and I am not against Mr. Godbold in any way whatsoever. I just have to say that from the looks of all the men in the photo that the US Marshall was probably the one kicking the door in due to his apparent physical condition compared to the others.

Is that a paintball vest that Godbold has on?
Posted by rayford (anonymous) on October 15, 2009 at 2:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)
In order for the Democrat to get the photo of the arrest being carried out someone had to call them to let them know it was about to happen. Right?

You guys are right..
That vest looks like it could belong to his grandchild.

It's beginning to look like most of the regulars who post on here have the maturity of....say...a 12 year old, and that may be pushing it. But thats what reading some of this reminds me of, reminds me of little school kids bullying or picking because they have nothing better to do. Posting opinions and voicing your thoughts on an issue seem fine, but some of you need to grow up. If you have a personal beef with someone (Godbold) thats cool, maybe the guy's just doing his job, maybe he's a slacker....I have no idea, but still....grow up

This is to honor a fallen soldier who lost his life trying to protect what's left of our freedom, not to bicker like a bunch of pre-K children.

Come on people ! How do you think the democrat got this photo of super godbold arresting this high profile murder suspect lookin all future-sheriff like with his teflon bib on ? You think that u.s. Marshal called them and said hey come get a snapshot of me ? Or did they just happen to be passing by just at the right moment ? Come on now. I'll repeat it for the short bus folks .... Good job mr. U.S. Marshal catchin the bad guy. Good job godbold gettin your picture in the paper.

I do not know Mr. Godbold but I know about the U.S. Marshalls and they do all the work. The Marshalls have to include the local Authorities because it's their sandbox they have to come play in. Look at the Marshall, very fit and ready. I'm sure the Marshall's are the ones who tracked this guy to Natchez. I'm with you Natchezroads.

You're right jmax, look how pumped that guy's arms are and all of the equipment he's totin'. All poor Craig has is a vest that doesn't seem to even fit. Anyway I still think that Craig's the man. He has my vote!

You guys are nutts I do not care who is running for what ,who is telling who to take the pics or how small you think his Godbold vest is. A murder is no longer raoming the streets of Natchez and I will shake the man or womens hand who had even the littlest thing to do with that. Heck I whould love to shake the camra man hand great pic ,great detail, and most of all your pic is what people are talking about the most on coments. A PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS!!!
