Mayfield leading in absentee count

NATCHEZ — More than half of Adams County’s absentee and affidavit ballots have been counted by election officials, and so far, the votes show Charles R. “Chuck” Mayfield leading Randy Freeman.
“We finished canvassing District 1 and District 2, and it appears with the preliminary numbers that Chuck Mayfield has increased his lead, so he is 139 votes ahead of Randy Freeman,” Gardner said.
District 1 consists of Bellemont, Bypass Fire and the courthouse precincts, and district 2 is Kingston, Beau Pré, Duncan Park and Liberty Park.
“We got the largest boxes with the most absentee ballots done today,” Gardner said. “Those are the big hitters that usually carry a fairly good percentage of voters. But we still have 13 boxes to go, so it’s still too early to call.”
Gardner said election workers have had no problems with the boxes, and that the majority of the absentee and affidavit ballots were verified, thus making workers’ jobs easier.
Since the remaining boxes do not contain as many absentee votes as the seven boxes election workers counted today, Gardner hopes to finalize the election by the end of the day.
“We’ll be starting a 9 a.m. sharp (today,)” Gardner said. “We hope we’ll be done (today) before we leave the courthouse.”

I take that to mean (today) which is Wednesday???

droopy...i know you mean well, but thats not the kind of man Chuck is...he doesn't operate like that...that makes him the better man for it.....Randy is a likeable man himself and he had the right to run like everyone else...... I think Chuck is the right person for the job....

I wonder if those folks who are counting the absentee ballotts can come to Wilkinson COunty for the next election. Their's is going smooth, I wonder why ours can't. Seriously, I wonder why ours has to go on 2 years in court, people sueing people, etc...

hopefully whoever wins is gonna weed out the losers from the s.o. like the idiot that left his assault rifle in his driveway and had it stolen or the one that arrested the lady that called him about the downed deer. clean house up there and keep only the ones that do their jobs with intelligence , ethics and respect for the community. and do not hire cox back under any circumstances. he needs to leave the area to find a job. he's had 2 chances here and proven himself to be the kind of unethical, arrogant, back stabber that we just don't want or need as a L.E.O. in natchez.

I have heard many comments like yours mrbobo.
It would be good to have a public examination of the rumors many of us heard about some of the workings of politics in the county. But I don't think that will happen.
As someone who has been around a long time, Chuck seems to offer hope for ethical behavior, respect for the constitution and the citizens, and some professionalism in office.

mrbobo no one left an assault rifle "in the driveway." Get your facts straight, and chill with the dripping cynicism. It was locked in a locked unit that was broken into and the rifle was stolen. IMO it's pretty weak to call a victim of a crime an "idiot'. Thankfully, reasonable, clear-thinking people understand that. However, I do agree with you about the deer incident...

I have been an avid follower of Mr. Chuck Mayfield's, since I first heard him speak.
On the other hand, when I heard that the Concordia Parish Sheriff has close ties to Mr. Freeman,
that caused me great concern.

ok then! stolen from a VEHICLE in the driveway. Sorry i just assumed everyone already knew that and it didn't need to be said. regardless, it's irresponsible as hell and stupid for something like an an assault rifle to be left in a car but for an L.E.O. to do it is just ridiculous and, in mrbobo's opinion, totally unacceptable. he should be fired for being an idiot.
