Lunch lecture will reveal the real story of the horse soldiers

Natchez — Historic Jefferson College in Washington will offer a free lunch-time presentation on Thursday, titled “The Real Horse Soldiers.” H. Clark Burkett, Historic Jefferson College’s historian, will present the lecture that looks at a comparison between the movie that starred John Wayne, the book by Harold Sinclair and the real event of the actual Horse Soldiers.

Burkett has been employed as a historian with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History for 24 years at Historic Jefferson College. This lecture at noon will be followed that evening at by a screening of the movie, “The Horse Soldiers,” at 6:30 p.m. in Raymond Hall.

Historic Jefferson College is located off Hwy. 61, in Washington, four miles northeast of Natchez. Historic Jefferson College is a branch of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
