Animal shelter in true need of help
Published Sunday, June 28, 2009
We have a crisis in our town and it involves the deplorable conditions at our animal shelter. The present building the animals are housed in is simply not fit even for animals and it is up to us to help them as they need it in the worst way.
My husband David and I are friends of Vidal Davis and we have listened to him on 95 Country as well as others asking for help in raising the much-needed money to build a new state of the art facility for all the animals that so desperately need a safe clean environment while waiting to be adopted.
I want to thank Vidal Davis, Conner House and Dan Bland for donating the land for the new shelter building.
I also want to thank all the wonderful people who have and are working so diligently to help the animals, including 95 Country and The Natchez Democrat. All of you make us proud!
The new shelter financial goal is $750,000, and as far as I know the total thus far is $355,000 in savings and another $60,000 in pledges. They may have raised more by now but they need much more to reach the total goal.
If we all come together and give even a small monetary amount, it will benefit the animal shelter.
Let us all join in this worthy cause. No monetary gift is too small, just give what you can as it will add up and will help the animals.
I know we all can help meet the goal for the building fund. Won’t you please help!
Who knows, we may even see a few tails wag, get a lick on our cheek or hear a purr or two to say thanks!
Please give by calling 1-866-898-7407 or sending check to the address below.
Natchez Humane Society Building fund, P.O. Box 332, Natchez MS, 39121
Our sincerest thanks to all of you!
Johnnie Galer
Natchez resident

I am urging all citizens to try to give to this project. It is more important now than ever. More and more animals are being "dropped off", "abandoned" than ever. They deserve a place of comfort. They didn't ask to be brought into this world, but it is our duty to take care of them. They are God's gifts for us to protect. Please give whatever you can; even a dollar.
THANK YOU.

And please remember to write on your check that your donation is for the building fund. If you don't, the money will just go into the general operating funds rather than towards the new building.

My dollar is on the way! Looks like a bad economic time to be fund raising for just animals. I put people needs ahead of such. Any who, I'm sending a buck. LOL

Raffle tickets for a giant stuffed panda bear are still available all summer at Dixie Furniture(524 Franklin Street). The tickets are only $1 each and ALL proceeds go to the ACHS Building Fund. The winner will be drawn at the Bark In The Park in September and you do NOT have to be present to win.

Crackbaby, I am sure your crack habit needs the dollar more than the shelter.

Thanks bellesouth, your comment is so brilliant. Trust me I'm not the one begging like dog for a dog.

My heart goes out for any animal in need, but I have to ask one question.
How will this overcrowded and underbudget situation get any better if we do not have a more proactive animal control system coupled with effective law enforcement of ordinances already in place?
