Vidalia FBC burglarized, plundered

Published Tuesday, June 23, 2009

VIDALIA — Late night visitors made a pilgrimage to First Baptist Church in Vidalia Saturday, but the evidence suggests their reason for visiting wasn’t prayer.

Vidalia police responded to a burglary report before services at the church Sunday.

The burglars apparently used bricks to try to break into the church at one location, but failed. They then moved to another window on the side of the church and were able to successfully enter the building, Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said.

The burglars attempted to take a television and a VCR out of a Sunday school room in the church but left the stolen goods behind the building, Hendricks said.

“The evidence that was left at the scene leads us to believe it is juveniles,” he said.

“They did a lot of pilfering and plundering, but it appears that they did not know what they were looking for. There were too many cabinet doors open.”

The police were able to lift numerous finger and palm prints from the glass at the church, and are keeping the television and VCR at the police station as evidence and to lift fingerprints, Hendricks said.

The matter is still under investigation, he said.

So what your saying c_r is that, if Tapper had remained in church this would not have happened. Give me a break!

They also broke into Ridgecrest church and trashed it Saturday night. A couple of the men stayed at church sunday night thinking they might come back again and they did and they caught one of themturns out to be some of the kids we teach in awana. He rated out the other kids.

A VCR? What is the street value of a VCR? Petty theives, going to hell for breaking into a church then the stupid hall of fame for attempting to steal outdated tech.

Good luck getting a match on those fingerprints.
If they are juveniles chances are no prints on file.

Durn bayou! How come this isn't reported? There may be a link.

I was wondering why the burglaries of Ridgecrest weren't reported myself. They broke in 3 times, but were caught the 3rd time thanks to some brave men who staked out the church. Had it not been for them, those boys would still be out there plotting their next target.

Fingerprint all of those implicated and involved so that they ARE in the national crime database. The VERY next time they decide, and they will, to do something without covering their hands, evidence will lead to them! There was a time where you didn't have to treat juveniles as adults, but sadly, we are beyond that time now. Some of these kids need to understand, you do adult things, adult things happen to you. I don't advocate putting them in a prison with adults, but they certainly need confinement for themselves and their age group, should they want to live outside the law. A bootcamp style or situation where they are worked, they will be too tired for devilment. They are strictly told when to get up, when to shower, when to eat, etc.

Some of the men from Ridgecrest recently participated in a revival at Angola. These men were changed by what they witnessed there. I say take these four 14 year olds to Angola for an up close & personal tour & visit with the inmates there so they can see where they are headed if they don't change their ways.

To me, this is about as low as it can get by burglarizing a CHURCH??? If these people don't get what they deserve on earth, they will when the rapture takes place!
Momof1, I totally agree with you! Amen. Amen.

It's really sad. These boys are only 14 and one was carrying a pistol. I hope and pray that this will be a turning point in their lives and they will get the help they need. The parents will hopefully realize that this is a wake up call and not just let them wander around assuming that they are staying out of trouble. They certainly have one church praying for them.

The burglars did remove the television and VCR from the Sunday school room? They just did not carry it from church property.

Where are the parents? How come they didn't know where they were during those times, and also haven't been noticing the new stuff they've come home with which they know they didn't buy?

Stories like this make me thankful I attend a church that doesn't even have doors much less a lock and key. This allows the people who attend to come and go as they please for prayer during the week.

juju unfortunately these days parents think that the kid's rooms are "their area" and parents should not intrude on their privacy. At my house, my husband and I have the policy that it is our house and we can look into and around anything in our daughter's room. Many parents choose to look the other way rather than take responsibility. They want to be their child's friend not their parent.

To much time on their hands. Give them some community work to do.

Make them serve meals at the nursing homes or cut grass for the elderly.

Then, give the parents a ticket for not knowing where their children were.

YEA, YEA to all the bad comments that will come back to me.

Wow c_r you sure are up early to pound on the local law enforcement. You know what, no matter what the article may read we can always count on you to be the one to come down on someone.

Honestly, I did not even get to the details of this story before I thought it was the work of a bunch of punk kids.

They'll find them quickly because kids like this are very un-intelligent when there is no real motivation for the crime.

You know what?
If it's about tappy, yes.
Whatever has convinced you that a positive opinion of him is an accurate one, good for you.
I have my own experiences to convince me of the opposite.

And no crawgator - this would happen whenever the offenders made it happen.

Just making sure that no one forgets the lies told and people used during the last election.

Except when edited by the staff of course.

Their is a steady stream of dopers, crackheads, methheads going in and out of all the pawnshops on both sides of the river, pawning anything that will bring a few dollars for a hit, they don,t care who they steal from and steal everychance they get from their parents and relatives.
That,s the main reason for the stealing or at least probably 75% of it.

Most kids nowadays are street smart and have higher IQ,s than some college grads. Didn,t say they were dumb, just that they love crack and meth constantley.

dang good thing BIlly the Kid wasn't treated the way they treat kids now, did ya have enough fruit loops when you were a kid oh there has to be a reason for why he is so mean, geesh if you wonder why people do so much look at the punishment and the fear of getting caught these people of all ages show. Most of them don't have a good home life aren't ready for the real world and could care less about right from wrong, but lets make sure we don't infringe on anyones right to be a terror to society. We have become such a humane society that the average normal citizen is abused in his fear of late night movement, he is over taxed for things he really doesn't support , he provides a living for alot of people that never lift a finger to support themselves and all these things we do because we are a humane country, so humane the average citizen is carrying a huge load of debt for the irresponsilbe among us.

This should be a good resource to get whats happening in our community out there so that the people who did this can be caught. But instead its simply used to take cheap shots at public officials. Then again everyone has a little more nerve to say things about the people they dont like when they are typing behind a username instead of actually saying it to their face.

It's called freedom of speech. Enjoy yours, I enjoy mine.
This also a forum for people whining about people saying things concerning ideals, opinions, and inept officials that they don't care for.
However, I fully support your right to do so.
