Bridge lights for $3M not 'tickling'

Published Wednesday, June 10, 2009

On the front page of The Natchez Democrat recently was an article about how tickled Larry L. “Butch” Brown is that it would only, I repeat, only cost $3 million to light up the Mississippi River bridge.

Isn’t that great?

On page three in the same edition of The Democrat there was an article titled, “Another tax possible.” The article states that lawmakers are scrounging for every dollar so they can avoid laying off employees or cutting services.

If the state is in such a bind, why in the world would we want to spend $3 million to hang lights on a bridge?

I guess we should be tickled it is not $6 million.

Our politicians and representives are grazing off the fat of the land, but that will change even, and it will not be far off.I don,t see how they look people in the face.

They just blew millions on forks of a road, new flower beds down the median, etc. and Natchez is borrowing money to pay the light bills for it. Idiots.

Buy the lights and tell me where you want them and I'll do it for $2,000,000.00

I was under the impression from the first article that Vidalia was paying for this, not Natchez. Have things changed?

No freedom...it's still the MDOC, LDOC and Vidalia footing the bill...Natchez has still declined. I can't blame Ntz for decling; they don't have the money. But it won't be long before we see an ad in Southern Living about Natchez and its "beautifully lit bridge after sunset".

I think it will look really nice but is a waste of money during this economic crunch. Do the project, just not yet.

HA! Buy a couple thousand christmas lights and all we have to do is loop them around the rails...yeah, that's the ticket, then we can buy some of those plastic rocks that have solar cells in them so they can be inconspicuously placed around on the bridge so we can use the sun to power them like the lights in my mom's garden.............OH YEAH, this is gonna be good!!

Has it crossed anyone's mind that the lights may be needed for safety?
