Friends, family gather for fireworks display

NATCHEZ — John Tipton was sitting with his grandson on a tree stump overlooking the Mississippi River to watch the night sky light up with fireworks Friday night.
The boy was busy moving around the stump with other kids.
“He met them when he got here,” Tipton said. “Children don’t meet any strangers.”
Tipton said that to him, Independence Day should be a day to stop and be thankful for our blessings and liberties, but his grandson was here to see the fireworks.
“If they make enough noise, he’ll enjoy it,” he said.
Hundreds of other people braved mosquitoes Friday night on the Natchez Bluff to celebrate independence.
Adam and Jessica Brady were out with their child to take in the evening of fireworks.
“The three Fs are what this day is all about,” Jessica Brady said. “Fireworks, family and friends.”
Candi Bernard was leaning on the rail overlooking Roth Hill with her family.
“This is an every year event for us,” she said. “I like letting my kids see the fireworks, they love it.”
E.T. Burke, 92, sat by the water fountain.
“There have been a lot of changes since I was a kid,” she said. “Back then, we had firecrackers, but we didn’t have anything like the big fireworks we are going to see tonight.”
Overlooking the bluff from the gazebo was Shelly Pike, who was here with her husband.
“It is pretty patriotic to come out and watch the fireworks,” she said.
As the fireworks emblazoned the sky Aeris Blanton, 7, waved her arms toward the lights.
“It was so pretty, and the fireworks flew into the sky,” she said.
The Richard family was leaning on the rails where the sidewalk meets the road behind The Grand Hotel. “We are out here because my grandparents are in town,” Jordan Richard said. “We thought that the fireworks would be something cool to come see together
“We all enjoy pretty sparkling things in the sky.”
Terry Estes said that he thought that tonight would be a great night to come out with his family, who were in from Oxford.
“There was a little breeze blowing so the evening was nice,” he said. “I thought that it was great, very entertaining show.”

Please tell me she really meant to add freedom in there:
“The three Fs are what this day is all about,” Jessica Brady said. “Fireworks, family and friends."
And this one:
“It is pretty patriotic to come out and watch the fireworks,” she said.
Excuse me, but how many of your family members have been in the military just so you can watch fireworks.
Do you people have any clue as to what the 4th of July really is all about? We are about to loose a lot of our freedoms, and I believe that is because most people don't even know what we have here in America.
THINK people, you are not going to be able to live in your little shells much longer. It's going to hit the fan very soon, and by next year you will be wondering what happened to your freedoms.

Now in the first place this country is not about our freedom any more it is about making money and about the three m's. ME, ME, ME. Second my four fathers fought also for religion and that is what many people in the US is trying to get rid of. My Freedom came when I was saved through Jesus Christ. How about you. And the 4th is the day chosen for the celebration this holiday. Only a couple of our fathers signed the Declaration of Independence the rest of our fathers signed on 4 August 1776. We as America do not have Freedom's any more because we have lost Jesus Christ in everything.

"four" Fathers? LOL
Posted by naturegirl (anonymous) on July 4, 2009 at 2:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Our "forefathers" came to North America to find freedom in the way they worship, they way they run their lives, the taxes they paid, and the right to own land and businesses. That's what our forefathers wanted, and gave us after much debate and finally war. People today take all that for granted and believe they have a right to whatever they want. They forget someone in the past has fought and died to give them those rights, and the future is going to bring a lot more struggle in our generation to keep these freedoms. Freedom in being saved by Christ Jesus is the most important freedom, but if we have no understanding of what it took to get and keep that freedom, we will lose it.

They were just talking. I don't think they were burning flags or anything. Lighten up, not everything we say is serious.
