Why dont they list how much these conventions are paying for renting the center & what the profit will be from each?

Probably cause the democrat doesn't want to waste paper and time printing stuff nobody wants or needs to read.

Tipton along with his group and the CVB members need to be replaced before we can capitalize on tourism.
Talk about incompetence at all levels? Where is the BOA, who is suppose to be overseeing the CVB? Why did we give a bonanza to Tipton's group?
HMM!

Wow, an article about just under 3000 people coming to Natchez in July, and your complaining? You might hate the CVB or BOA, but 3000 for july is pretty good, in case your forgot July in Mississippi is extremely hot, having an extra 3000 people for various events/conventions is great news, I wish the ND would run this article once a month.
Lets say the average person in town for a convention spends $25 a day for various expenses (food, drink, gas, etc). That is $163,750 spent in and around Natchez from people from events listed above.
Sounds like just what the doctored ordered, people and money in Natchez.
So for anyone who thinks the conventions listed above are small potatoes, what have you done lately that brought 3000 people in town or produced $163,000 in sales in and around Natchez?

Well, considering we have 35,000 rooms available for rent in July, why would anyone in their right mind think that Tipton and the CVB are doing a good job.
After all, the $2 bed tax was to be the answer for low occupancy rates at the hotels/motels! Some more propaganda from the Natchez tourism idiots.
Their next move will be to seek additional funds!

So Natchez has more rooms available than people in the city?

Are there really 35,000 rooms for rent in this area?
Posted by jlmorris (anonymous) on July 4, 2009 at 8:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)
We have about 1,138 rooms in Natchez and there are 31 days in July, so 1,138 rooms times 31 days would be 35,278 rooms for rent.

You need to take into consideration that some of these conventions last 3 or 4 days, so the rooms will be occupied by the same people for more than one day.

I got it now. Thank you jlmorris.

freedom42, considering (1138 rooms available for 31 days), means that the above listed conventions will occupy roughly 14% of available hotels rooms for the month of July.
Plus regular non scheduled rooms for weddings, vacations, etc.
ultimately, the convention center providing 14% of hotel occupancy for entire hotel business for month of July is pretty good.

Walter Tipton doesn't work at the CVB. Why is he always criticized in relation to tourism?
Connie Taunton is the Tourism Director, and her salary is paid with tax dollars. Walter Tipton works in the private sector.
