Natchez Project announces 2009 fellowship recipients

Published Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Natchez — Cathy Broski and Danny Meisinger were each awarded a Natchez Project fellowship for 2009.

The Natchez Project is a convergence of selected artists in Natchez for the purpose of exploration and creation of artwork. The intention of the Natchez Project is three-fold: to provide time and space for artists to create without distractions, to allow interactions between exceptional artists and to provide a venue for exhibition.

The Natchez Project was created and is sponsored by Conner Burns. The 2009 Natchez Project is currently under way.

A public art talk by the fellowship recipients and exhibition of the artwork of Natchez Project Fellowship artists is open to the public and will be from 7 until 9 p.m. on Saturday at Conner Burns’ gallery, 209 Franklin St. in downtown Natchez.

Broski is a sculptor from Kansas City, Mo. that works in both life size figurative work as well as smaller scale representational work. Her work can be seen at www.broskiclay.com

Meisinger is from Spring Hill, Kan. and creates large scale vessels. His work can be seen at www.spinningearthpottery.net

Burns teaches workshops across the nation to both professional and amateur artists and teaches weekly classes locally at Natchez Clay. His work has been featured in various books, and he has received awards from galleries, art festivals, art associations and national clay organizations. Burns’ work has been exhibited widely and is in collections across Europe, Asia and the United States.

My congratulations to Broski & Meisinger. I do have one question and please do not take this as a sarcastic question. Perhaps I don't understand the purpose of the Fellowship. Why would fellowships iin Natchez be awarded to people from outside Natchez?
