Supervisors deserve thank you

Published Friday, September 19, 2008

To my knowledge I haven’t seen a thank you to the Adams County Board of Supervisors for lowering the county taxes.

I believe this is the right step toward Adams County attracting industry to come our way. Special thanks go to Mr. Henry Watts’ time and effort to make this happen, as well as the rest of the board.

Henry, keep up the good work going toward a bright future.

On the other topic of the city wanting to annex county properties — that is only to pull more people and properties into the city to tax. I feel that this is taking the right of the citizen to want to stay in the county in a Gestapo official way of making it legal.

This should be put up to a vote of the people. The city can’t take care of the city properties or services as it stands. Examples would be the streets that are in a bad way. We all agree on that.

Congratulations to Mr. Jake Middleton, elected mayor of Natchez. I wish him the very best to solve the problems of Natchez and its citizens.

I challenge Jake to lower the city taxes and that of the county, instead of raising taxes.

Let's see. The taxpayer will get a one mil reduction and the supervisors increased the budget by $2,500,000 from funds derived from the closing on the IP transaction.

Seems to me that instead of tossing the taxpayer a carrot of a 1 mil decrease, maybe we should have gotten a 13.5 mil decrease.
