Buckley leads Alcorn State to win over Delta Devils

ITTA BENA (AP) — Tim Buckley threw for 378 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead Alcorn State to a 35-21 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday night.

The Braves (2-5, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on Davaris Pilcher’s 15-yard rushing score and a 10-yard touchdown run by Buckley, who ran for 46 yards on 16 carries. Pilcher had 78 yards on the ground on eight attempts.

Brandon Stargell caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Paul Roberts for the Delta Devils (1-4, 0-2) in the third quarter. But Buckley, who completed 24 of 32 passes, connected with Channin Pugh on 32-yard touchdown pass to give Alcorn State a 21-7 lead in the fourth.

Buckley also had a 1-yard touchdown run and a 4-yard passing score to Edward Johnson in the final quarter. Johnson had eight catches for 88 yards and Elliott Moore caught six passes for 77 yards.

Roberts was 16-of-29 for 250 yards and threw an interception for MVSU. He also ran for 70 yards on 11 carries.

Yea good win Braves!!! Alabama A&M is a very crucial game for us.....We gotta show and support the Braves!!! We win this game and we control our own faith!!!!! We got several alums from the Atl going to Huntsville!!!! Keep it up Braves!! ONE GAME AT A TIME!!!

I agree with dransom. Let's don't lose focus. O-line needs to keep getting better so that we can really turn up the running game and contiune to use the tight end as an offensive weapon. Super nice punt return, 52 yards by #23 Joshua Brumfield.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SU BEAT THE SAME SORRY TEAM HUH. JUST LIKE A JAG TO WORRY ABOUT THE ASU BRAVES. I KNOW THAT IT IS SOMETHING THAT THOSE BIG KATS (LIKE SU AND JSU) HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON A FEAR OF THE BRAVES.
