VIDALIA — The Vidalia Walmart was evacuated Saturday evening following a bomb threat that was reportedly made to multiple locations across Louisiana.
Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said an automated call came in to the Vidalia Police Department at approximately 6 p.m. alleging a bomb was in Walmart.
Louisiana State Police reported multiple Walmart locations across the state received bomb threats, Lewis said.VPD notified Walmart’s management. Patrons and employees were evacuated from the store. Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted at the scene along with members of the Ferriday Police Department and the Vidalia Fire Department.
The store’s employees were moved to a “refuge area” in front of Aaron’s rent to own store in front of Walmart .
VPD officers and Walmart management completed a check of the building and found nothing out of the ordinary.
Because of multiple threats across the state and a limited number of bomb technicians, Lewis said, LSP would have dispatched a bomb squad only if local authorities had found something suspicious in the store.
After the building was determined to be clear Walmart management reopened the store.
Walmart locations in Ruston, West Monroe and Jena reportedly also received bomb threats Saturday, as well as locations across the region.
Walmart locations across the country have received threats over the past few days as well.
