NEW ORLEANS — Cathedral High School’s Quinton Logan followed up a state championship victory by making a trip to New Orleans Monday to show off in front of scouts.
Logan, along with an estimated 25 others, took part in an invitation-only workout in front of Miami Marlins scouts at Zephyr Field. Logan received the invitation to work out for the Marlins affiliate after he impressed in an earlier encounter in the regular season.
“The scout was actually at our game against Monterey, and he invited me to a workout at Co-Lin and then invited me to this workout in New Orleans,” Logan said.
Logan said he was able to throw 25 pitches in the mini workout, and felt good about his performance.
“I think I threw pretty well, threw a lot of strikes,” Logan said.
Also in attendance among the select few was Southern Miss reliever Jake Winston. Winston, a Vidalia native, said a scout reached out to him and said it would be good for him to show what he has. Only problem was the rain forced him to pitch inside the Zephyr facility.
“I showed them my arsenal and just kind of did the best that I could,” Winston said. “Honestly, I don’t think I did very well because I was cooped up, but they told me I did a good job.”
Logan and Winston have another workout for pro scouts today at Ridgeland High School. There, both will work out for the Milwaukee Brewers.
