CONVENT, La. (AP) — The St. James Parish sheriff’s office says a storage dome has collapsed at the Nucor iron plant near Convent.
Sheriff Willy Martin says the collapse occurred around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Martin says early responders noticed smoke and damage at the site, including damage to storage domes on the property. Parish President Timothy Roussell says the domes store raw iron ore but the product is non-toxic.
There are no reports of any injuries. And there’s no impact outside of the plant.
The sheriff’s office said it is scaling back what had initially been an emergency response and securing the scene to assess the extent of any damage.
